Swimwear Care Guide

Looking after your Black & Beech swimwear

Your swimwear is made from Carvico Vita, a premium Italian fabric woven from 78% regenerated ECONYL nylon and 22% elastane. ECONYL is made by transforming waste like discarded fishing nets and ocean plastic into a brand new, beautifully soft yarn. It is one of the most sustainable performance fabrics in the world, and with a little love it will keep its shape, colour and stretch for years.

Here is everything you need to know to keep it looking its best.

Why this fabric is special

Carvico Vita is not your average swim fabric. It is engineered to last, which means less waste and more wear out of every piece.

  1. More than double the chlorine resistance of standard swim fabrics, so it stands up to pools, hot tubs and salt water

  2. Resistant to sun creams and oils, the things that usually wreck swimwear

  3. UPF 50+ sun protection built right into the fabric

  4. Pill resistant and quick drying, so it holds its finish wash after wash

  5. Made from regenerated nylon, giving ocean and landfill waste a second life

Treat it well and it will outlast anything else in your beach bag.

The simple care routine

Rinse straight after wearing

As soon as you are out of the water, give your swimwear a rinse in cool, clean water. This is the single most important thing you can do. It flushes out chlorine, salt, sand and suncream before they have a chance to settle into the fibres.

Hand wash where you can

We recommend hand washing in cool water with a small amount of gentle, non-bleach detergent. It is kinder to the fabric and helps cut down on the microplastics that all synthetic fabrics shed in the machine. If you are short on time, a cold, delicate machine cycle inside a wash bag is fine.

Dry flat in the shade

Lay your swimwear flat to dry, away from direct sunlight and heat. Drying in the shade protects the colour and the elastane. Never tumble dry.

The do's and don'ts

Do

  1. Rinse in cool water after every wear

  2. Hand wash with a gentle detergent

  3. Dry flat, in the shade

  4. Store it fully dry and folded

Don't

  1. Use bleach, fabric softener or harsh detergents

  2. Wring or twist the fabric to get water out, gently squeeze instead

  3. Tumble dry, iron with high heat, or dry clean

  4. Sit directly on rough surfaces like concrete or wooden decking, which can snag the fabric

  5. Leave it balled up wet in a bag

A few extra tips

Rotate between pieces if you swim often. Letting swimwear rest and dry fully between wears helps the elastane recover and keeps the fit snug.

Watch the hot tub. Heat and concentrated chlorine are the toughest test for any swim fabric. Carvico Vita handles it better than most, but a good rinse afterwards goes a long way.

Pop a press cloth over the fabric if you ever need to iron, and keep the heat low.
